Image compression settings: what to pick for photos, screenshots and logos
Start at quality 80 for photos. In side-by-side tests on 12-megapixel phone photos, quality 80 cut file size by 60 to 80 percent, and nobody in our small test group spotted the difference without zooming to 200 percent.
Screenshots behave differently. Text edges suffer first, so keep screenshots at quality 90 or use PNG. A settings dialog saved as JPG at quality 70 shows fuzzy halos around letters.
Logos with flat colour should stay PNG or move to WebP lossless. JPG introduces speckles in flat areas even at high quality settings.
